Wynnefield Overbrook Revitalization Corporation

The rhythm of the Spanish Revival cornices, bays, and storefront windows on this block of North 54th street has been broken by first-floor renovations and large signs. However, enough of the original detailing is left to benefit from a coordinated series of façade improvements. The Collaborative worked with the owners of six stores on façade improvements and produced a compelling sketch showing what the block could look like.

Renovations to the beautiful upper stories of these storefronts was quickly funded and has already been completed. The next step: working with businesses to improve the shops at the street level.

“Adding new materials can be done with sensitivity. Sometimes, you have to step outside your comfort zone and understand what materials will keep the historic feel.”
