About Us

Amplifying resilient neighborhoods; equity by design

The Community Design Collaborative partners with communities to envision the environments where they live, work, play, and thrive.

The Collaborative’s Design Grant Program helps nonprofits succeed in the challenging arena of community and economic development. We match nonprofits with skilled volunteers from the fields of architecture, engineering, and construction. Our volunteers provide nonprofits with the design process and tools they need to engage their communities, put their visions down on paper, and advance to the next stage: gaining support, raising funds, and building projects.

The Collaborative’s Infill Philadelphia initiative explores key community development opportunities in Philadelphia through design. The initiative's interactive programming brings designers, community members, community development experts, policymakers, funders, and the media together to discover new design solutions and new relationships.

Founded in 1991 as a pilot program of AIA Philadelphia, the Collaborative is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a network of over 1,000 volunteers. Together, our volunteer design professionals and nonprofit partners have invested more than 100,000 hours in strengthening neighborhoods through over 600 community design projects.

A diverse array of corporations, individuals, public agencies, and foundations support the Collaborative and its mission.
