The Energy Coordinating Agency has received a 1.1 $ million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to renovate its warehouse in Kensington as a LEED Silver training center for green jobs. The grant will give a big boost to the $1.8 million project and Pennsylvania's place in the emerging green economy.
ECA acquired the building several years ago to rehabilitate as sustainable office, storage, and staging space for its growing energy conservation programs. In 2006, the Community Design Collaborative helped ECA with its initial rehab plans, augmenting a conceptual design by the Engineering and Design Institute of Philadelphia University with an electrical and mechanical systems assessment. Support for a green economy in Pennsylvania has blossomed since then, leading to still bigger plans for the warehouse.
ECA is hosting its 25th Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, April 21. Proceeds will go to the development of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Green Jobs Center.
