Brian Szymanik, principal of MAKE architecture + design and Denise Thompson, associate with Francis Cauffmann, received AIA Philadelphia's Young Architect Award this month. We're proud to say that their dynamic resumes include volunteer work for the Community Design Collaborative.
Brian and Denise both participated in our 2005 affordable infill housing design challenge, where they got to explore new housing prototypes that used Philadelphia's standard rowhouse as a launching point.
Brian continued volunteering with the Collaborative, providing conceptual designs for Mt. Tabor Community Education and Economic Development, Byron Story Youth Restoration Center, and Mayfair CDC. He also led a feasibility study to support the relocation plans of Spiral Q Puppet Theater. In October, he presented MAKES's design guide for facade improvements and interactive fence for East Girard Avenue at our Corridor Realities workshop.
