This year, there will be a new player on the lanes— Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is a proud Ten Pin Sponsor of our 21st Annual Bowling Ball!
Why did CHOP decide to join us? “We’re always trying to improve children’s health and wellness right where they live, in their homes and neighborhoods,” says Amanda Evans, Community Relations Coordinator. “We have a history of joining forces with nonprofits, local businesses, government agencies, and schools.
“We see community development and public health as intertwined. The social and physical quality of life in neighborhoods affects children. We’ve always been committed to organizations that are supporting children’s wellness. We can’t do it alone, collaboration is a key.”
Some of the top issues that CHOP is tackling are asthma and food insecurity. CHOP recognizes that the Collaborative’s preliminary design work prepares the way for quality affordable housing, vibrant commercial corridors, and safe, engaging parks, playgrounds, and other gathering places.
“Community design is right where we work, live, learn, and play. CHOP’s goal is to make sick children well and to secure a healthy future for families in their own communities,” says Evans. “We’re happy to align with a group like yours that’s doing work to strengthen neighborhoods.”
Bring it on
Many CHOP employees have a strong connection to and are deeply involved in the surrounding communities. CHOP employees care about the hospital’s patients and their families and many volunteer their time outside of work hours to promote health and wellness their community. The hospital's CHOP Cares Community Grants Program even provides grants to CHOP employees for supplies and resources needed to fill a specific health or wellness-related need in communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
“We thought the Collaborative was perfect for our employees… they’ll enjoy the event," says Evans.
And will a health system with 14,000 employees have a special advantage when it’s trophy time? “We’re experts in a lot of things, but don’t necessarily know about bowling,” Evans laughs. Still, she notes, “CHOP employees have a lot of hidden talents… so who knows? We may uncover some stars!”
Join CHOP as a Bowling Ball sponsor and join us on Saturday, September 23 for a fun-filled night of bowling, teamwork, and trophies.
