Philadelphia has the highest percentage of people experiencing poverty among the nation’s ten major cities, with life expectancy differing by as much as 20 years depending on where one lives. Jefferson University, New Kensington CDC, and Impact Services worked with the Collaborative to develop a mobile platform for health outreach with true curb appeal. In Summer 2018, Jefferson’s Health Design Lab brought an Airstream trailer to several locations in Kensington to test out programming and set-up options. Their findings were used by the Collaborative design team to adapt and rebrand an Airstream to bring health outreach and other community programs and services within reach of the residents of underserved neighborhoods.
