The Collaborative awarded the East Passyunk Community Center (EPCC) a design grant to redesign the center’s existing open space to be more inclusive and interactive. The community’s main concerns were visibility, safety, and community engagement. The conceptual design enhances the site with a more open, welcoming entrance, lighting and signage upgrades, façade improvements, surface and subsurface stormwater management, a new playground, and new trees and planting beds.
"The most rewarding part about my Collaborative experience was the excitement from the community when our team presented the improvements for the Community Center."
"I think design has the capacity to connect underutilized spaces and simultaneously upgrade our infrastructure systems in unique and thoughtful ways."
"When a group of people comes together to participate in the creative process, the place becomes a reflection of the collective."
“Sometimes it just takes one comment from a community member to help you think outside the box and change the course of the design for the better.”
"I encountered community members who have quite strong feelings about how their neighborhood looks and feels."
