Pretzel Park is graced with mature trees, old stone walls and stairs, and twisting pathways. The park is in need of repairs and a strategy to connect it to the larger neighborhood. The Collaborative’s conceptual design provides a game plan for improving the park’s playground, dog park, and entrances. New seating, lighting, a hillside slide, and a rain garden make the park more engaging for everyone.
An arbor is proposed for the Cotton Street entrance
Existing site plan: the twisting pathways may have earned the park its nickname
Proposed site plan: Improvements can proceed in phases to accomplish the big-picture plan
A hillside slide and natural play area extend play onto the embankment at Cresson Street
Regrading the dog park and adding a swale rain garden
Lighting defines new areas for seating and gathering
“The people who live in the community and use the site know best what works, what doesn't and what is needed. Their insights are vital to creating an effective design.”
