Q. Why is design an important part of revitalizing communities?
R. A successful design does not simply solve a problem, it creates a place that resonates with people. Design is critical to revitalizing communities specifically because place is so closely associated with memory and identity. We all have places that have left an indelible mark, the backyard where we grew up, the camp where we spent our summers, or a sublime landscape experienced while traveling. These places are special and personal. When a group of people comes together to participate in the creative process, the place becomes a reflection of the collective. A well-designed place can quite literally come to define a community.
Q. What has been most surprising, rewarding, or fun about your Collaborative experience?
R. Working with talented and passionate colleagues who volunteered their time. It was equally as energizing to participate in this process with such dedicated and engaged members of the community.
Q. What do you love most about Philadelphia?
