Q. Why is design an important part of revitalizing communities?

R. As team historic preservationist, I am interested in CDC projects for owners/stewards of historic buildings. Helping owners/stewards and my team members appreciate the value of historic buildings and the feasibility and importance of their restoration, and how these projects contribute to the character of our communities. "Design" may be something that not everybody fully understands, but the quality of our environment has an impact on all of us.

Q. What has been most surprising, rewarding, or fun about your Collaborative experience?

R. I enjoyed immersing myself in the history of rowing (I read Daniel James Brown's  The Boys in the Boat in addition to other, more relevant sources), and the opportunity to see a Philadelphia boathouse from the inside.  Most surprising was the surviving integrity of the Penn AC boathouse, on the exterior and also on the interior.  What was most rewarding was the ease of working with this project team--such an easy sharing of talent and ideas among a large group, many of us working together for the first time.

Q. What do you love most about Philadelphia?

R. What I love most about Philadelphia is that it's a walkable, historic city.
